Frequently asked questions.
Frequently Asked Questions
What exactly is executive functioning coaching?
Executive functioning coaching helps students and adults develop the cognitive and emotional tools they need to manage school and life. For students, this often means working on things like planning ahead, organizing assignments, managing time, starting tasks, studying effectively, keeping track of responsibilities, and following through.
But coaching is not just about making a better planner or creating a prettier to-do list. It’s about helping each client understand how their brain works, what tends to get in the way, and what systems actually feel realistic enough to use.
What ages do you work with?
I work with middle school students, high school students, college students, young adults, and adults.
I also support parents and families who are trying to create more structure, communication, and consistency at home without constant reminders, arguments, or overwhelm.
Is coaching the same as tutoring?
Not exactly.
Tutoring usually focuses on a specific subject, like math, science, reading, or writing.
Coaching focuses on the skills underneath the schoolwork: how to plan, prioritize, study, organize, manage time, start assignments, and stay consistent across classes.
Many students benefit from both tutoring and coaching. Tutoring can help with the content, while coaching helps students build the systems and habits they need to keep up with the work more independently.
Do you collaborate with parents and teachers?
Yes, when it’s helpful and with permission.
I often collaborate with parents, teachers, school counselors, psychiatrists, therapists, or other support professionals so the student has a more connected team around them. I aim to ensure we’re all working toward the same goals.
Holistic support can be especially helpful when a student is feeling overwhelmed, falling behind, or struggling to communicate with teachers on their own.
The goal is not to micromanage the student. The goal is to create the right amount of support while helping them build confidence and independence over time.
How often do students meet with you?
Most students meet for an hour at least once a week.
Some students meet more often during especially busy seasons, like finals, midterms, college transitions, or big project-heavy weeks. Others may adjust their schedule over time as they build stronger habits and need less support.
We’ll talk through what makes the most sense based on the student’s needs, goals, and schedule.
Do you offer virtual coaching?
Yes. All coaching sessions are held virtually through Zoom.
Virtual coaching allows students to meet from home, their dorm, or another comfortable space without adding extra driving time or stress to the family schedule.
It also allows us to work with the tools students are already using, like online grade portals, digital calendars, school websites, Google Suites, or whatever system their school uses.
What happens during the intake call?
The intake call is a chance for us to talk through what’s been going on and what kind of support might help.
We’ll usually talk about what feels hardest right now, what the history is with those challenges, and what goals would feel meaningful for your family.
There’s no pressure to have everything perfectly figured out before the call. The goal is simply to see whether coaching feels like the right fit and what support could look like moving forward.
Do you work with students with ADHD, dyslexia, or processing disorders?
Yes. Many of the students I work with have ADHD, dyslexia, anxiety, working memory challenges, processing speed differences, or other learning differences.
I approach coaching with the understanding that students are not lazy, careless, or “just not trying hard enough.” Most of the time, they need skills, systems, support, and someone who can help them untangle what is actually getting in the way.
My background in social work and years of coaching experience allow me to tailor sessions to each student’s unique learning profile.
Do you offer adult ADHD coaching?
Yes. I work with adults who are looking for support with executive functioning skills in daily life, work, school, or major transitions.
This might include support with task initiation, planning, prioritizing, routines, organization, time management, follow-through, emotional overwhelm, or creating systems that actually feel doable.
Adult coaching is not about becoming a perfectly organized person overnight. It’s about building realistic tools that fit your brain, your responsibilities, and your real life.
What are your rates?
Rates can vary based on session length and frequency. I’m happy to discuss your needs and go over pricing during the intake call so we can find a plan that makes sense for your family.
Do you offer sliding scale sessions?
Depending on availability, I offer a limited number of reduced-rate slots for families who need them. Please feel comfortable bringing this up during our call.
How do we get started?
You can get started by scheduling a free intake call or reaching out through the contact form.
From there, we’ll talk through what’s going on, what kind of support you’re looking for, and whether Luna Coaching Academy feels like the right fit.
Together, we’ll create a plan that feels supportive, realistic, and tailored to your student’s needs.
